Under the authority of the Director of Parliaments and External Relations, the political advisor supports the work of the IPU bodies and advises politically and legally on the proper functioning of the IPU assemblies, on strict adherence to the statutes and rules of the IPU, as well as on good relations with the parliaments of IPU members and partner organisations. The incumbent also provides programmatic support to the organization responsible for the animation of the IPU Young Parliamentary Forum. It is not uncommon for individuals to work part-time for two or more MPs. Each of these jobs would be a separate job and you would need a separate employment contract for each. If you work with more than one employer, your working hours should not exceed 48 hours per week to comply with the Working Time Directive. Responsible experience in international relations, conflict resolution, policy or development or related areas, preferably in a multilateral context, is required for at least five years. Experience and familiarity with the political and operational conditions of a field operation in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Latin American regions are welcome. Experience in reporting and retaining a field operation is desirable. Working for a member of the House of Commons can be a very interesting career opportunity.
